More on Katmai

I found some more info microsoft’s announcement of Katmai. This part caught my eye.

IT Team: SQL Server 2008

IT Team: SQL Server 2008: “Intrinsic support for many digital data formats, including pictures, audio, video and other multimedia data. In current versions, such multimedia data can be stored as BLOBs , but they are generic bitstreams. Intrinsic awareness of multimedia data will allow specialized functions to be performed on them”

Microsoft SQL Server code name "Katmai"

It’s official – Microsoft announced yesterday that Katmai is coming.

Microsoft SQL Server code name “Katmai”: “SQL Server code name ‘Katmai,’ the next release of Microsoft SQL Server, provides a comprehensive data platform that is secure, reliable, manageable and scalable for your mission critical applications, while enabling developers to create new applications that can store and consume any type of data on any device, and enabling all your users to make informed decisions with relevant insights.”

There are a couple of interesting questions that come out of this article.
1. How far are they going to take the business intelligence being integrated into SQL?
2. How far can we take XML? This seems to be a focus of all new software releases.
3. Beyond relational? Interesting way to classify it.

We’ll see what happens. It will be fun.
